Happy “We Hate Homos” Day!

This is why I am NOT marching in NYC’s St. Patrick’s Day parade:

Too lazy to click? OK. LGBT Irish groups have been historically denied the ability to march alongside their Irish brothers and sisters in NYC’s legendary St. Patrick’s Day parade. City officials have continuously refused to intervene in the homophobia because the parade is a “religious march.” Um, if that’s your excuse guys, then the uniformed FDNY and NYPD must be pulled from the parade. A demonstration can’t be both public and city-sponsored and private and religious. It just can’t. And if the city is going to legally enforce religious homophobia, then it is in MAJOR violation of their own anti-discrimination laws, not to mention the separation of church and state.

I’m Irish, but I’ll stand against discrimination before I stand with my heritage any day of the week.

Update: The fabulous Elaine Vigneault has alerted me to this someecard that I wish I’d known about yesterday:
