So the next asshole that tells me that being a woman is totally chills now because we got the vote and can go to college will be immediately directed to this.
Allow me to sum it up: A Nebraska judge has recently banned the words “rape,” “victim,” “sexual assault,” and “sexual assault kit” from a trial, claiming that it will taint (heh heh) the jury’s perception and destroy their ability to be impartial. He has demanded that the rape victim use the words “sex” and “intercourse” to describe the event during her gazillion hour-long testimony.
Awesome. Because there’s nothing like forcing a rape victim to use terms reserved for CONSENSUAL sexual activities to describe her assault. The woman has heroically refused to do so, stating that “to describe what happened to me as ’sex’ would be perjury,” and may possibly be shown in contempt of court and go to jail for her stance. Gotta love a country that’ll throw rape victims in the slammer in the blink of an eye but does everything in their power to protect a rapist!
I mean really…flip this thing around and imagine how you would feel if somebody forced you to call the consensual sex you have with your boyfriend/girlfriend “rape.” “SEX” AND “RAPE” ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE! That’s like saying “slave” is synonymous with “employee.” If this thing all plays out the way this asshole judge wants it to and becomes precedent, can I look forward to carjackings victims testifying about “lending” the perp their vehicle? Will “kidnappers” become “buddies”? Jesus Christ.
In other exciting, woman-hating news, a bus driver in Germany recently threatened to THROW A WOMAN OFF HIS BUS BECAUSE HE CLAIMED SHE WAS “TOO SEXY” AND HER CLEAVAGE WAS DISTRACTING HIM. Yeah lady! How dare you bring your tits on a bus! He yelled at and berated her in front of an entire bus full of passengers, finally forcing her to change seats. Read that again. And again. And again. If you’re a woman, go cry. If you’re a dude, punch yourself in the nuts.
It’s so wonderful that we live in a world that both applauds AND punishes women who dress both provocatively AND modestly. Can we ever really win?

Well, yes. I agree. Concerning your P.S. statement. The reason nobody cares about feminism anymore, is the same reason white people are sick to death of hearing about black racism. Feminists ruined it, where certain blacks ruined their movement by bitching all the time. After really trying to understand the feminist movement of the 70s I was disturbed at how far these women were asking other women to go. It was all out war, and now men are sick to death of hearing about feminism and other women don’t care because of various reasons. Btw I am a woman. I consider myself a believer in gender egalitarianism. I’m of course for everyone’s rights, but people are going to call you uppity because feminism has a bad name now.
There’s always going to be stupid people in both genders, you can’t change everyone in the world.
But you know what, I’m glad the driver did that. He was honest, and he put the safety of the whole bus ahead of his embarrassment or possibly getting in trouble. I’d rather be on that man’s bus than some spineless person too afraid to take control of a situation.

You are sympathizing with HIS EMBARRASSMENT? WHHHHATTT? HE was the one embarrassed, NOT the woman he essentially called a whore in front of an entire bus full of people?! He “TOOK CONTROL” of the situation?! No. “Taking control” of the situation would mean that he kept his asshole, misogynistic eyes to himself. The guy screamed at a women because he DIDN’T WANT TO control himself. HE PUNISHED A WOMAN FOR HIS OWN ACTIONS, FOR CONTINUING TO LOOK AT A PART OF HER BODY THAT HE INSISTED ON SEXUALIZING, EVEN THOUGH IT PUT PASSENGERS AT RISK. What the fuck happened to personal responsibility here? Oh that’s right. Men aren’t responsible for anything! They’re animals, incapable of control! Stare at a woman’s chest? Kind of like the way men and patriarchy-supporting women do when confronted with glaring examples of male privilege. NO! You will NOT have reproductive freedom! That’s for men only!

This was a post that was primarily about RAPE and men in power’s ways of sympathizing with RAPISTS rather than VICTIMS. And you dare to come at me with this whole “people are sooooo sick of hearing about feminism, so stop whining about the lack of justice for women, because it’s not going to change” bullshit? You’ve never been raped, have you? I’m sure the over 25% of all women who have been appreciate your sympathy.
According to you, we should just shut up about feminism because “men don’t care,” which therefore, somehow means it’s not important (because as we all know, men are the center of the universe and we should all just listen to what they have to say, damnitt!). Come talk to me again when your pharmacist refuses to sell you EC, or you discover a male coworker who is less qualified makes more money than you, or someone sexually assaults you and the cops, lawyers, and judges all think you deserved it, or when your insurance won’t cover your birth control (but will cover your husband’s viagra), or when you’re called a slut for sleeping with half as many people as your male friends, etc…you get my point (but probably not).
Let’s get one thing straight: feminism does not have a bad name because “women ruined it.” Feminism has a bad name because it goes against everything patriarchy stands for, and patriarchy is God in this culture. Oppression is completely and utterly invisible, so women often don’t see it (that would be you). Men certainly don’t want to see it, because doing so would force them to admit to male privilege, and therefore force them to give some of it up (which, let’s face it, they don’t want to do) in order to be a completely and totally decent human being. I don’t even want to get into the whole “feminism benefits men, too” argument, because it pisses me off that the only way to get men to support social justice seems to be explaining how it can benefit them, as well.
Blaming women and people of color’s oppression on their own opposition to it makes you a. fucking. asshole. end. of. story.
Goddamnitt, woman. People like you are the reason patriarchy and racism still exists. Here, this will hopefully knock some sense into you. Now shoo.
